FESTIVAL
OF THE DELPHIC GAMES: PURPOSES
- To re-establish a historic tradition
of intrinsic value from antiquity that has viability and bears
relevance to the present time.
- To re-energize Delphi, its archeological
site and its museum, in their unique proximity to nature and
to community, less as a hub of tourism and more as a living
center of myth.
- To establish a Festival of The
Arts that honors excellence based on standards, inclusive of,
yet beyond, technique alone, recollecting the original numinous
properties inherent in both art and the experience of festival.
- To create a Forum for Sport that
considers the philosophy and pedagogy of athletics in its historical
precedents and shows how the ideals and ethics of sport remain
vital concerns in contemporary life.
- To combine the separate urgencies
in the performing arts and
in sports today in order to find a meeting ground for their
potential, joint, respective celebration of human powers.
- To serve as a model on a mythological
and an actual plane for international social, political and
cultural collaboration.
- To aid cities of the world in
developing a united capacity for missions inclusive of sport
and the performing arts in spatial and relational tandem.
